Jesus Calling - December 6th, 2024

Jesus Calling: December 6

Stay ever so close to Me, and you will not deviate from the path I have prepared for you. This is the most efficient way to stay on track; it is the most enjoyable way. Men tend to multiply duties in their observance of religion. This practice enables them to give Me money, time, and work without yielding up to Me what I desire the most -- their hearts. Rules can be observed mechanically. Once they become habitual, they can be followed with minimal effort and almost no thought. These habit-forming rules provide a false sense of security, lulling the soul into a comatose condition.
What I search for in My children is an awakened soul that thrills to the Joy of My Presence! I created mankind to glorify Me and enjoy Me forever. I provide the Joy; your part is to glorify Me by living close to Me.

RELATED SCRIPTURE:

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)
5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

Colossians 3:23 (NLT)
23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Additional insight regarding Colossians 3:23: Since the Creation, God has given us work to do. If we could regard our work as an act of worship or service to God, such an attitude would take some of the drudgery and boredom out of it. We could work without complaining or resentment if we would treat our job problems as the cost of discipleship.

Psalm 16:11 (NLT)
11 You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Additional insight regarding Psalm 16: 8-11: This psalm (16:10 - "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.") is often called the messianic psalm because it is quoted in the New Testament as referring to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Both Peter and Paul quoted from this psalm when speaking of Christ's bodily resurrection (see Acts 2:25-28, 31; 13:35-37).

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father... Thank you for the eternal invitation to stay close to you, and all the joy and satisfaction that comes forth when I stay on the path you laid before me. I'm so sorry for all the times I overcomplicate the situation by making it transactional or conditional. You do not operate in the ways of the world. I pray that my focus aligns with yours, which is on our relationship. And that I don't lose sight of or appreciation for the relational joy that comes from being with you. Please help me to keep making space and room for you, to keep yielding to you, in my longing to be close to you. In Jesus' name, Amen!
