Jesus Calling: September 8th
Accept each day exactly as it comes to you. By that, I mean not only the circumstances of your day but also the condition of your body. Your assignment is to trust Me absolutely, resting in My sovereignty and faithfulness.On some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance: The demands on you seem far greater than your strength. Days like that present a choice between two alternatives--giving up or relying on Me. Even if you wrongly choose the first alternative, I will not reject you. You can turn to Me at any point, and I will help you crawl out of the mire of discouragement. I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me, by relying on My empowering Presence.

Additional insight regarding Psalm 42:5: The writer of this psalm was discouraged because he was exiled to a place far from Jerusalem and could not worship in the Temple. During these God-given holidays, the nation was to remember all that God had done for them. Many of these festivals are explained in the chart in Leviticus 23. Depression is one of the most common emotional ailments. One antidote for depression is to meditate on the record of God's goodness to his people. This will take your mind off the present situation as you focus your thoughts on God's ability to help you rather than on your ability to help yourself. When you feel depressed, take advantage of this psalm's antidepressant: Read the Bible's accounts of God's goodness, and meditate on them.
2nd Corinthians 13:4 (NLT)
4 Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you [God] we will be alive with him and will have God’s power.
Additional insight regarding 2nd Corinthians 13:4: That we "will be alive with him and will have God's power" should be a comfort to all believers. Christians are not just playing church. We are not in this angry ocean of a world in a rubber raft with a plastic paddle. We are passengers on his Majesty's finest vessel, driven by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. We may be tempted to underestimate our ability to accomplish what Christ desires. We forget that Christ is on the bridge, directing the ship safely through the rough seas and finally into its eternal port.

I was in my home we had been painting walls so (I was 36 yr old) we were sleeping on the fold-out bed in the living room. As I was going to sleep I said Lord I wish you would show me something that lets me have no doubt you are real. Then I said I love you Lord and I went to sleep. At 5 o'clock in the morning I woke up and tossing and turning and could see this picture in my head of my husband's Bible he used to use he had got a new one. I finally stood up and went to the coffee pot and I could not get that out of my head as I was seeing this I kept hearing page 55 page 55. I went into the room where we kept the bibles and a rocking chair where we read and I opened that old Bible and I turned to page 55. Going back I would like to say when I was 19 years old I went forward again in church because I had been saved at 13 but rededicated myself. The man at the front that was praying with me had used the verse I am who I am or I am that I am. My brother-in-law had actually gone forward that night too and that really meant alot that has always been my favorite verse but I knew it was in Exodus somewhere but I didn't know where. As I'm reading the entire page 55 there the verse was. Also I looked in all the many bibles we have and not one other bible had that favorite scripture on page 55. I am praying for you today. He is real, just trust. I am now in my 60's.
DeleteI wonder every day if there is really a God that loves me. In 68 years I still don’t have any idea. All I know for sure is how unfair, unjust and how cruel people are to each other and that I have tried to talk to God but he never talks back. I keep trying in the hopes that one day he will and I will have an answer as to why he put me in such a racist nation that claims to be the greatest country in the world and there is nothing great about it.

Trust me, we all wish some things were different and that people were nicer, but again, the Bible says that not one of us is good. No, not one... only Jesus is perfect. Your heart for others and for justice is clear.Yet, God says your heart must be devoted completely and totally to him, and He will make all things new. Confess that Jesus is the only one way to peace...not men, not politics. Even the disciples who walked with him thought he was going to be a Messiah that would take over Rome and physically set up a new kingdom. But Jesus was doing far more than that. He was setting up a spiritual kingdom to last forever, and we can be a part of that. This is what he did for me. And I know he'll do it for you. Keep seeking Him and Him alone. 💜
DeleteDear Anonymous above, it's a year later but I hope you read this! My prayers go out to you. I pray that you will know and understand how loved by God you are. We cannot understand the world's hatred and cruelty. But we can know, beyond that mystery, that God has a plan and the plan includes Love, Peace, Joy and Forgiveness. HOW we get there is unknown to us; but THAT we get there is assured through Jesus Christ, our dearest savior.

DeleteI agree that we live in a cruel world and it’s been that way since the beginning of time. God is definitely with us, though. I have never had him talk to me, but I see him every day through my children, through nature and people doing good things. Please don’t be discouraged and keep the faith. Don’t stop praying, for he is listening. May God Bless You and Keep You❤️

DeleteI'm surprised to see that observation from a 68 year old about our Country. I've been beaten tied and choked to near death over and over while my arms and legs were tied with leather straps in a V.A Hospital in NLR Arkansas and encountered other abuses going back to when I was 16 years old in Hot Springs Arkansas and had a pedophile councilor that worked for the Arkansas Rehabilitation department but I still love my Country. Go figure. Thank you for making this devotional available online . I love reading it and have been for a long time now. Request prayer our Country which I thought was blessed because so many people want to move here from other Countries can get even closer to our Lord and please him by thinking of others who are in need and help them when their in a position too. Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless our Country and all the Churches we have throughout it too.
