Jesus Calling - December 14th, 2024

Jesus Calling: December 14

Rest in Me, My child, forgetting about the worries of the world. Focus on Me--Emmanuel--and let My living Presence envelop you in Peace. Tune in to My eternal security, for I am the same yesterday, today, and forever. If you live on the surface of life by focusing on ever-changing phenomena, you will find yourself echoing the words of Solomon: "Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!"
Living in collaboration with Me is the way to instill meaning into your days. Begin each day alone with Me, so that you can experience the reality of My Presence. As you spend time with Me, the way before you opens up step by step. Arise from the stillness of our communion, and gradually begin your journey through the day. Hold My hand in deliberate dependence on Me, and I will smooth out the path before you.

RELATED SCRIPTURE:

Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Additional insight regarding Hebrews 13:8: This verse connects two ideas: honoring living examples of faith and the importance of consistent doctrine. To make this transition, the writer describes a crucial truth. Earlier, this chapter offered directions for Christian living (Hebrews 13:1–6). That included looking to the example of Christian leaders (Hebrews 13:7); such instruction echoes the depiction of legendary heroes given in chapter 11. A key theme of the book of Hebrews, in fact, is the idea that God's plan does not change. Using Old Testament Scripture, the writer showed how the new covenant is not about God changing His mind, or His nature. Instead, it was always God's intent to replace the old covenant (Hebrews 8:6–8).

Ecclesiastes 1:2 (NLT)
Everything Is Meaningless
2 “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”

Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

Additional insight regarding Proverbs 3:6: If we want perfect direction in life, whether we are buying a house or looking for a spouse, choosing a vocation, or planning a vacation, in all our ways, we should acknowledge the Lord. He will not only guide us in the right way but also remove obstacles from our path. The apostle James admonishes us to consult the Lord's will when we need to plan our days (James 4:13–15). This doesn't mean we'll get answers to every question we might ever have. A blunt figure of speech used in English points out that life is already hard, and it's only harder when one makes foolish choices. Following God's plan and His will is an excellent way to avoid added struggle.
